Procter and Gamble (P&G) in Sweden, converge communications using Ericsson’s One-Phone system.
A recognized leader in the consumer products industry, P&G has over 135 000 employees working in more than 80 countries worldwide. Everyday, 3 billion P&G branded products are sold around the world. The company has one of the strongest portfolios of trusted brands, including Duracell®, Gillette®, Braun®, Pantene®, Head & Shoulders®, Pampers®, Olay®, Ariel® and Lenor®.
A need was identified for a more efficient mobilized communications system within P&G, Sweden, to optimize efficiency. Working remotely within P&G was problematic, many staff having up to three contact numbers, depending on their location. Although 60 percent of employees had a company handset, many had to carry two or more phones. P&G’s mobile phones were not previously integrated into the telephony system, making staff difficult to reach, and this lack of efficient communication placed a strain on the switchboard, hindering optimum productivity.
The challenge was to increase mobility and simplify the system, while maintaining security. As the global provider of IT services to P&G, Hewlett Packard was consulted and it recommended Ericsson’s One Phone framework. This system includes a mobile phone for each member of staff connected to P&G’s communications infrastructure. This solution converges the fixed and mobile lines allowing employees to be accessible anywhere, anytime using a single number.
The One Phone system has been well-received by P&G, and immediate results have been seen. Since implementation, a significant amount of time has been saved each day, call quality has increased and users find it much easier to maintain contact. The fact that each member of staff has one phone and one contact number simplifies communications, significantly improving productivity and cost-efficiency. Håkan Berggren, Information and Decision Solutions Manager, Procter & Gamble Nordic, summarises: “Ericsson’s mobility solution has enabled us to save 20 minutes per day, when you consider this is per employee, it represents significant savings both in time and costs.”
